At long last

We finally have a working broad band connection. It took the phone company the longest time to figure out why it wasn't working. We've been using a portable dial-up modem, and it was crazy slow. I've also not been at peace enough for scrapping. There's been my house in disarray and a decission waiting to be made. Also I only got the main kit from Studio Calico last month, and I'm running out of ways to use it. I got three add-ons this month to compensate. I'm not that fond of the main the way it looks in the picture, but that's changed several times when I have it in my hands. The add-ons were absolutely AMAZING! County Fair was easily my fave kit ever, but we'll see what happens when Story Hour arrives.

Since my Daydream Believer is running thin I've dug back into County Fair. Here's two layouts I've made this weekend:

I followed Amy Tan's advice from the Stretch your kit class - pick a few colors from the photo. I'll admit it makes a difference. This was really one of those AHA moments. I'll probably have a hard time NOT doing this in the future.

This one was made for a SC member challenge to only use a main for a layout. For someone who's not a fan of themey layouts I went out of my comfort zone for this one. This is probably the first layout I've ever made that actually has decorations that matches the story. The cones are an idea from Jen Jockisch who made a video tutorial on these for the Stretch your kit class.

I have more layouts to share, but I'll have to wait a bit. I'm guesting at Molly's scrapbooking this month - YAY! Lilo sent me a whole bunch of Crate and Studio Calico to work with. Love that! When she shares them on the store blog I can post them here also.

As for that decision waiting to be made - it's been made. This became such a long blog post I'll save it for tomorrow. Welcome back!

Finally unpacked

My scrapspace is finally unpacked and extended with an 8-square IKEA Expedit shelf.I gave my 4-square to the kids. And no, I don't have much stuff! I try to limit myself to only buy what I use up. The desk and chair was made by a relative of mine and is from the late 18th century.

I'm tempted to also share some photos of our new kitchen. It's so big! Love it.

And here's a layout for Amy Tan's Stretch your kit class challenge to use a piece of what came in the mail. I cut off my old address and used in a layout about moving. The journaling says that the only thing I'll miss from the old place is the mangler in the laundry room. I would always mangle the kids' sheets, because my mom always did that for me and I loved it.

I've scrapped my first Hipstamatic photo. Literally! Here it is:

I used the stamps from the County Fair add-ons "Shooting Gallery" and "Photo Booth". These two stamps are my favorite stamps to come in a SC kit ever. That little arrow is SO cute!

I used a sketch for this layout as well, but I don't know where it's from so I won't share it.

Using Pinterest

I found this amazing pin where Elizabeth Kartchner had used patterened paper for printing out her photo. So cool! I had to try it. I wanted to use the photo as a background for my layout, so I went into Photoshop and added a 30% opacity white layer on top of my photo. Then I printed it out in size 8.5x11''.

The journaling is about us finally taking the plunge to buy our own house. I used part of this pinned quote for my title.

I love this H&M t-shirt I'm wearing on the photo. It has a cool collage-y print, and I used that as inspiration for my corner cluster.

I've decided to go with sketches this month. Here are two more layouts based on SC Sunday sketches.

Every morning this time of year our walk to pre-school takes us straight into the most beautiful winter sunrise. It really feels like the sun is telling us good morning. And here's the sketch I used:

I found a fun quote on red heads and decided to scrap it with a photo from my daughter's 2nd birthday. She has crazy bright orange hair. The rest of the family is dark haired. On both sides. Four generations back. How does it happen?!

I really disliked the butterflies when I first saw them at reveal. They are so far from my scrap style. Then I started seeing projects in the SC gallery where clever ladies had taken them apart and thought YES!

I've decided to use sketches for this month's SC kit layouts. I have a whole file on my laptop with SC Sunday sketches that I've saved but often never used. This is my first layout using the February kit "Daydream Believer".

This layout is about my son's very first purchase with his own money. He picked out a pirate kit at the toy store. I put the receipt and part of the packaging in the envelope.

Following up on my 2012 scrappy goals

So, as I wrote in this post I have some new scrappy goals for this year. One of the goals was to keep a file for each Studio Calico kit on my laptop, and photograph every single layout I make. That way I can go back and see what I've gotten out of each kit, and which ones should give more. Today I've flipped through all my albums and taken out all the layouts that I hadn't photographed before, because I wasn't planning on sharing them. Then I sorted them into my laptop files. This is the number of projects from each kit:

Glee Club keeps resurrecting itself! I made two more yesterday:

This is not as far from my scrap style as you can get, but at least half way there. Let's just say there's a reason why I prefer placing my elements crooked from the beginning... But I still had to try this one out when I saw Stephanie's insider tip on the SC blog.
I can't figure out how the straightening tool in Photoshop works, so it looks to be leaning to the left. (Feel free to share tips!)

Then I have a photo I absolutely love, but that I haven't been able to scrap. I've tried many times, but I'm never happy with the results. I think it is the colors in the photo that makes it hard to scrap. Then I remember a layout by Tina Aszmus in the Glee Club gallery, so I ripped her off completely. Not a thing my own here, but I love the result!

Tomorrow's Monday again, so back to work!

Digging into past kits

I've recently started digging into past Studio Calico kits. They're piling up and I don't like it! Glee Club really had a lot more to give. It was the first kit since my sub started that really, really felt like me. Some of my fave layouts ever has been made with this kit. Here are two more that I've made recently:

I made this for the SC Sunday sketch challenge. The title and journaling is about the number of stuuffed animals my daughter keeps in her bed. She is hanging off the edge just to fit them all in, but she won't go to sleep without them. The title is also a little stretch your kit tip from me: When the letter thickers are running out, use the numbers for your title!

I had to tell the story of my daughter's first injury. She flipped downhill in the snow and landed face first. She really hurt her mouth and nose. We had to get a dentist appointment to check on her teeth as well. They seem to be okay. I usually journal by hand, but there was too much to write about this time. My printer doesn't take 12x12 papers so I used a scrap piece and printed the text out vertically instead, and glued it to my page.

I've also made a third Glee Club layout that I've blogged about here. So that's three more. And I've got sooo much stuff left!

Loving winter

This is how it looked walking to preschool this morning -15 C/ 5 F. Sunrise. Beautiful!

I love Friday mornings because my classes don't start until 1 PM. I still have work to do but we're never in a hurry. Today my son was home sick with his dad, so it was just me and my daughter(2 y.o). We walked and talked, and I realized we never do that. I hardly ever get to spend time with her alone. Need to start doing that! We looked at the birds, the yellow snow (and she learned what that is...) and tried to reach the lampposts, which she thought was hilarious. This is a little conversation we had:
She: Daddy loves me.
Me: Yes, he does.
She: Mommy loves me.
Me: Yes, I do. Very much!
She: Daddy plays with me. Aeroplane.

Aww, she's so sweet. She has much more thoughts in her head than I ever knew. I want to hear more!

Scrap your celebrity crush...

I scrapped my teen crush (gee, that was like 25 years ago!) Nikki Sixx of Moltely Crue. If you know who it is you know what I mean, and if you don't you never will. The title is inspired by the Pink Paisley Halloween line, where the fab black brad is from. I used the SC kit Glee Club and add-ons. The Halloween theme went so well with the photos.

Not only did I make a card but I used some of the Basic Grey chip shapes that I didn't like. Also turned out to actually like this card. Don't know what I'll use for yet.

Past kit faves and thoughts

As I wrote in this post, I have made some new plans on how to go about scrapping my Studio Calico kits. Two of those things have really been helpful to me in working with the January kit. I have made a file on my laptop for every kit I've recieved (8 so far). In each file I've collected photos of the projects I've made with that particular kit. This has really helped to see that the kits have been worth their price even if it's not killed. I've decided to share my favorite project from each kit:

1. Paper Moon - love the Amy Tan tag!

2. Mind the gap - this was too hard. I'm picking two!

3. Boardwalk - this was hard for a different reason. I'm not 100% happy with any of my Boardwalk layouts, but I decided this one is ok.

4. Glee club - this was the first in a long row of kits that really, really suited my taste and scrap style.

5. Field Guide - I think this is my favorite layout ever.

6. Handmade - I'm nuts about the lime green alpha stickers:

7. Brooklyn Flee - this is the kit I need to get back to. To my surprise I found only 4 layouts in my file. I think a few have gone into my albums without being photographed. I will have to track them down. This was DD month, and I just didn't have the time to scrap regular layouts also. Again, nothing feels a 100% in this file but I'll pick one I'm ok with:

8. County Fair - my fave kit of all! I've made sooo much with it and I love it all. I got 3 add-ons, which I have never done before. It's the most amazing kit. So hard to pick only one, I'd like to post all of them, but I'll show you these two:

And my 9th kit is in the mail. Yay! But I'll have another 2 weeks to spend with County Fair, and I don't mind at all.

Confetti by Pinterest

There has been so many inspiring projects using confetti lately. I found this pin: http://pinterest.com/pin/38139928063917940/ and thought it would be fun to try and do something similar. I stitched my conetti up in a vellum pouch and also let some spill out onto the page. I used glue to stick them down indiviually. A bit time and energy consuming but I down know how else to make them stick exactly where I want them.

I've got a material list up in my 2peas gallery if you want to know what I used. The arrow stamp is from the SC Field guide kit.

Sunday sketch

This week I made the layout for the Sunday sketch at the Studio Calico blog. I loved the sketch I was sent. This is it:

I stuck pretty close to the sketch. I used a photo of my son from Christmas Eve. He's a huge Star Wars fan, and had asked for some action figures for Christmas. I don't think he actually expected to get any, because he was almost in shock at getting THREE of them. He just sat there and smiled. Adorable! This is my layout "Happy happy":

This is my first time EVER using the embossing fan I got for Christmas. It was so much fun. I really like how it looks.

CHA challenges at Studio Calico

Starting this Saturday and running a week are the CHA challenges at Studio Calico. There are 10 different challenges created by different members of the DT, and each one has a prize of a $5 SC shop credit. If you take part in all 10 challenges you could win a prize of $50 worth of products from the new SC lines!!! I find it a good idea to keep track of my challenges. I could do it in a notebook or I could do it right here, maybe for someone else to enjoy as well. I will list the challenges here, and during the week I will update this post as I make new projects. Marker mayhem

I love this picture of my kids taken at gramma's house. I left them alone for a few minutes, and this is what they both looked like afterwards. My son said he got tattoos just like daddy. I couldn't help laughing. Luckily it was waterbased markers so everything but the green came out easily.

Creative process

I love Amy Tan's blog posts when she shares the creative process on one of her layouts. I'm no Amy Tan (although we do share the same birthday...) but I like the idea and decided to make a post of my own.
Here's a layout I made for one of the LOAW challenges at the SC forum this month. It's about submitting a project you made. I chose the use of wooden elements.
I wanted a gridbased layout, so I started out like this:

I picked up the green from the Kesi'art polkadot PP, and embossed the number stamp in the opposite corner:

Then I added the wood veneer frame painted with Pony Mister Huey and the photo.

Last I placed out the title and embellishments. I thought the butterfly and plane went well with the "Let your mind soar" journaling.

Materials: SC January kit County Fair with add-ons Ringtoss and Photo Booth, plus SC wood veneer frames and Mister Huey in Pony.

Thoughts on working with Studio Calico kits

I'm really looking forwards to the February class at Studio Calico: Stretch your kit with Amy Tan. It's already got me thinking on what I need to do to make the most of my Studio Calico kits. My biggest issue with them has been that I have been feeling stressful about not using up the old ones before the new one arrives. I've had a gnawing feeling I should have made more and better layouts with the past kits. I sat down and thought of ways to remedy this.
I'm starting the new year by:

Photographing every layout I make, instead of just the ones I plan to publish in my online galleries. I will make a file in my laptop for each kit. That way I can go back and see how many and which layouts I've made every month.
Printing out the kit contents of the main and the add-ons I get, and mark off the items I've used.
Accepting that I won't like every piece of a kit. Not everything will be me. And it's ok not to use those items, even if I paid for them! (Hello, Basic Grey chipboard shapes...)
Allowing myself to get rid of products I've only used part of. I've put pressure on myself to use EVERY button and EVERY sticker on the sheet. If I've used a slice of the paper I liked and a handful of those pretty buttons, they were worth their price!
Making a list of what to do and what not to do, when making layouts I like. What have I done right in my past layouts? And when have the layouts ended up in the trash (ahem, using paint...)and thereby wasting good product?

January kit has arrived!

The Studio Calico January kit County Fair arrived yesterday. Yay! I got 3 add-ons. I have never done that before, but the add-ons this time was SO amazing. And the stamps!

The Main is not my favorite, but the woodgrain washi and the exclusive veneer alphas are wonderful. I really like the entire first add-on, but the Kesi Art PP is NICE.

I really went back and forth with the third add-on, but decided to get it because of the stamp and the MME numbers PP. The Pebbles candy dots are cute too. The fourth add-on is also loved in total! If I should pick something it's the stamp, the corrugated alphas, the Ormolu fabric swatches and the camera overlay.

And here's my first layout:

Diving back in

I'm so ready for the Studio Calico January kit to arrive! Right now I'm diving back into some of my older kits. I managed to kill Paper Moon, with one more layout. I also made two more from Boardwalk, and these two from Handmade:

My Handmade PP is literally down to scraps. This small sliver was all I had left of the Crate woodgrain paper. You know you like a paper when you've hung on to such a small piece of it :D I still have some of the embellies left, so I'm on the fence what to do with it. Is it dead or not? I kinda don't want it to be, because I loved, loved, loved this one!

The reason I'm going back into my past kits is the news of the Amy Tan class at SC. Read about it here! I really feel that making the most of a kit is something I want to learn. Just attack, make the most of it and be done with it. These not quite killed kits have really been gnawing on my mind! Now when I open them I see that there really isn't much more I can do with them, that I'll like. When all the good stuff is used up, what's the point of making projects from the leftovers that you know you're not going to like anyway? I really want to learn how to give it my best and then be able to move on without regrets. I'm hoping this is the class for me! Plus Amy Tan and Jen Jockisch in the same class - how could it go wrong!!??

Also I plan on getting the main ONLY in February. I know more people feel like me. In order to not have your stash build up too much, some shopping self-controle is needed. So now I've written it down here, and you can hold me to it! I know it will be SO hard when sneaks start.(Today!) In January I caved and got three add-ons. County Fair will never die, I tell you!

December Daily pages 20-24

Again these pages have been done for a while. I'm just bad at photographing them and posting them on here. And I'm still on my penicillin as well.

Day 20: Left side is a collage of some of the Holiday greetings we've received. Inserted is the card we sent. Our little gingerbread girl and Santa boy.

Day 21: Last day of work for me, and last day of Pre-school for the kids. This is my Christmas gift from work. Coffee (which I don't drink, because I'm not that grown up yet...), tea, chocolates and cookies. To the right I've written down all the things we did that day.

Day 22: Since it's Thursday it's time for another page protector. I love these photos I took of the kids. It was their first day of a three week long break from pre-school, Christmas is around the corner and they were S-P-E-E-D-E-D. Running round and round the loop of our downstairs chasing each other. I mistakenly stamped the wrong date on the Ormolu journaling card. Oh well.

Day 23: We baked peppermint chocolate chip cookies. They looked pretty, but they tasted so-so, which is why I'm not leaving you with a recipe! The photo on the right is of my daughter eating a storebought grilled chicken leg for the first time ever. We rarely buy pre-fabricated food, but the day before Christmas Eve there was SO much to do and I was feeling lazy. I have NEVER seen anyone eat a chicken leg like she did. Ha! She was in heaven! So much for mama's homecooked food, right?!

Day 24: Christmas Eve, the day Swedes celebrate Christmas. I made a collage of the day's events. Mostly of our family opening gifts. My mother and brother stayed over. Lovely day!

I'll be adding an envelope with a list of the Christmas gifts we gave and received. I'll photograph it for my next post. Hopefully my last DD post for this time.

I love seeing these posts on everyone's blog so I felt obligated to make one as well. This is the first day I'm able to sit up at my PC long enough to blog. Eating penicillin and getting better. I'm too old to deal with these kid's diseases. Phew! Here are my 10 fave layouts of 2011, in no particular order.

Embrace the ordinary was part of a SC kit killer challenge to use at least 2 border punches:

Stick around is about my son's fave toy - a stick. I love the products on this one. The wood grain and my all time favourite letter stickers.I made it from an Alison Waken sketch at Elle's.

October 2011 I made this one for Magdas to show off the Pink Paislee transparancies, that ended up not really showing on the photo.

Wherever is another layout for Magdas, made to show off the OA Bording Pass line.

Cute Couple is a Maggie Holmes lift. I think it may have been one of her SC Board Walk kit layouts.

My happy place was made for a challenge at Molly's scrapbooking. First prize was a guest DT spot, which I won.

Like Pingu is a scraplift challenge for Molly's scrapbooking. It's so simple but I love this one!

5.2.08 is the date of my son's birth. I saw this design in a dream and had to try it.

You smile was inspired by a Sunday Sketch at SC. It was a layout by Laura Kurz, but way off the sketch, so I don't think I ended up entering it.

You've got a friend in me was inspired by Pinterest. There was a challenge at SC to scrap a lyric, could it have been a CHA challenge? I've tucked a sheet of the entire lyrics in one envelope and my journaling in the other.

A SC Sunday Sketch

I'm home with a bad case of tonsilitis. Terribly painful. I had this page scrapped before the fever hit. It's made for this week's Studio Calico Sunday sketch, that looks like this:

I started out by flipping the page vertically, putting the photo on top. I then decided I wanted my circles in a non symmetrical pattern. I cut squares of paper and laid them out. Then I took a punched circle and traced around it where I wanted the circles to go. I then punched the different papers. After I punched the circles I couldn't decide what to do:

I considered dimensional adhesive, leaving the circles bare or switching the patterns around. I decided on dimensional adhesive, but I'm thinking I'm going to try the other alternatives as well. I think they all would look cool.

So this is the finished layout telling the story of all the Christmas preparations, and then the waiting. Presents under the tree. The MNCD is the initials of everyone in my family.

Reused photo

I loved this photo of my DH and kids that I used for Day 3 in my DD, that I wanted to scrap it as well. I used the Brooklyn Flea main kit stamp. The ink I used for the tree stump stamp is Faded linen distress ink. I wanted it pale, but it turned out a little paler than I intended. I stamped the leaves on the fab Amy Tan green polkadot PP, and cut them out. Then I used green thread to stitch branches.

DD days 15-19

This project is making me feel good for two reasons. One: I've kept up! Two: I'm using SO much stuff from my stash. I don't have a huge stash compared to most scrappers, but I do have a whole file of unused papers. Since I became a SC subber, I just don't use them. Other embellies and alphas and such make it into my kit projects, but the papers don't. It stresses me a bit that I've spent money on something I'm not using. So this DD thing is perfect!

Day 15: My son was home for 5 days with a fever. He really loves his Lego Star Wars game, and he's very good at it despite being only 3 y.o. Mostly he prefers to play with his father, since I'm not always able to help out if he gets stuck...
Since it's Thursday it's time for another page protector. The straw ornament is from IKEA. I got a big box full, and they're in several versions. I've used them for layouts and giftwrapping for years. We still have a whole bunch left for our tree. I'm really happy about adding the cloves. They smell yummy and Christmassy! I also bought a few cinnamon sticks but they were too bulky to add.

Day 16: This week has really been the week for finally getting the things I've been stressing about done. This evening was gift wrapping. It took me 3 hs. Ugh! And we haven't even gotten that many Christmas gifts, since we just bought a house. Yeah, that kinda drains your bank account :D

Day 17: See, we keep getting things done! Time to decorate the tree. My husband took pictures while me and the kids hung the ornaments but we kept getting in the way and the pics weren't good. I kinda regretted adding that chipboard tree, but oh well.

Day 18: This was the last day my husband had off before Christmas Eve (which is when Swedes celebrate Christmas) so we had to go grocery shopping. We also had to get some last minute Christmas gifts for each other, so we went for the grocery store at the Mall. We'd heard it was absolutely horrible there the day before, with lines going in and out of the parking lot. We dropped the kids off at my mom's. Our son still running a fever, poor thing. We get to the Mall, find parking and go inside prepared for the worst. And it's wonderful in there. Not crowded at all, nice and calm. No lines. We got our gifts. Made time for coffee(well, Diet Coke for me. I'm not grown up yet...)and a cookie at the bakery. Then went grocery shopping, and was able to pick the kids up almost an hour early.

This is my fave spread so far. I love the photos from the store. That's my husband in the middle pushing our shopping cart in the parkinglot while the first decent snowfall for December starts. I love that rack of wreaths I found outside the entrance.

Day 19: I only have a 20 minute walk to work, so I get a little exercise every day.This was my view walking home in the afternoon. I did not add the blue lighting. It was there on it's own. The photo makes it look more country than it is. There's a bus stop just on the left, and an intersection on the right. I noticed the mist in the field and waited for a pause in the traffic. Lovely!

Aaaaand sum more DD pages again

Day 11: I'm really loving Ali Edwards digital templates. I've been using them for almost every day. For Advent Third we had some friends come over to celebrate. Unfortunately all the people pics turned out bad, so I only had food photos to document the day.

Day 12: The journaling you can't read on the right talks about us trying to get a decent photo for our Christmas Greetings to send out. Ugh! It's always chaotic. This year the kids decided karate is superfun and suitable for a Christmas card... It took some friends pointing out to me that the pictures are fun and happy, before I actually started to like this particular photo. And with the Ali quote "play and have good cheer" it's perfect!

Day 13: The morning started with the annual Saint Lucia celebration at the kids pre-school. We didn't know the Saint Lucia gear was supposed to go on OVER the regular winter clothes... So our son stood out in his rainy day overalls with a santa cap. And our daughter had her ginger bread man hat on. Oh well.

Day 14: This page was made for the Studio Calico LOAW challenge to lift a DT member from the December Gallery. I lifted Tina Aszmus's LO "Still..."

December Daily days 6-10

Posting two days in a row! I have a few more DD pages to share. Again I've got a list of materials up on my Studio Calico Gallery. See link in post below!

Day 6: For the large photo I've used some of Ali Edwards' overlays that you can buy from Designer Digitals. These are from "Holiday Word Art". The journaling is about the weather that is everything but Christmasy at the moment. All too common in this part of Sweden unfortunately. I'm still hoping for a turn downwards in temperature and some snow. Or LOTS!

Day 7: This day we got a tiny dusting of snow. Happy kids! Underneath the photo is my sons wish list for Christmas.

Day 8: Picking the kids up from pre-school. For once they were in their overalls. Other days they're mostly in raincoats.
On the right is the second multi-pocket page protector. I used a woodgrain stamp on the chipboard stars, in JBS Seed Packet ink. I love how they turned out.

Day 9: I have no regular day 9 page here. My son spent the night at Gramma's, that's the journaling on the Ormolu "Today" card. He had a few early Christmas gifts with him back home. I photographed them and tucked the pictures in the Maya Road envelope. Again I LOVE those green Amy Tan letter stickers!

Day 10: We spent the day cooking and baking for Sunday, when some friends were coming over for Advent Third. Another Ali Edwards digital in this photo. I have to share the recipe for these amazing spicy nuts I made. Swedes go here! For the rest of you here's the recipe:

Spicy Nuts

1 tsp chili powder
1 tsp cayenne pepper
1 tsp cinnamon
3 tbs granulated sugar
1 tsp salt
2 eggwhites
2 cups mixed nuts

Heat oven to 400* F.
Mix spices, sugar and salt. Lightly whip the eggwhites and mix with spices. Add the nuts. Stir.
Spread the nuts onto an oven tin and roast in oven for about 20 minutes. Open oven and stir every 5 minutes. Let cool.

I stamped the journaling around the photo as a frame. It's about how I cheated on this page... The photos of my son eating cake batter are over a year old, and I stole the title (a play with words) from a free recipe book I found in our grocery store. The large photo on the right is of the Red Velvet Cake I made this day. For that recipe in Swedish look here!

YES! I have been working on my DD, I just haven't been posting about it. I was looking through my album I wasn't liking what I was seeing. It didn't feel like me. It was too simple somehow. I went back and added and remade a few parts of days 2-5. Here it is:

I have a post about these pages up on my Studio Calico gallery, with much of the supply list on there. Most of what I use in the DD is from my stash, but I've added a few pices that are more "Christmasy". Such as the October Afternoon Holliday Style chipboard pieces and miscellany, and an amazing Maya Road mixed pieces package. Love that! I shopped at Molly's Scrapbooking for those.

The ghost of Christmas past

I'll be sharing a few more DD pages on Monday. Until then I found this old photo, that I wanted to share with you. This is me and my most beloved Gramma on Christmas Eve in 1975.

If my Gramma would be alive today she would be 98 years old. She passed away at the age of 91. She faced many hardships in her life and lost her father, her husband, her first grandchild and her son (my father) in tragic ways. I was all she had left, and we were very close. Her home was my favorite place to be when I was growing up. She always gave me fresh sheets to sleep in, cooked all my favorite meals and in the summer she would go out and pick raspberries while I still slept, so I could have them with breakfast. She was also an incredibly talented knitter. I would draw pictures for her and she would knit the pattern onto to sweaters for me to wear. In her old days it was my turn to return the favor and care for her, which I did for many years. I have nothing but happy memories of you sweet Gramma and I miss you so.

Day 3: Goofing with dad

I used an Ali Edwards 6x8 template for the full size photo. On the right is a bunch of tags from our shopping trip for the day.

Day 4: The second Sunday of advent

On the left is another Ali Edwards 6x8 template.On the right the journaling says: "Advent sweets in the kitchen. A cold and rainy busride to Gramma's. Beautiful oranges on great grandpa's handmade wooden plate. Walking the dog during sunset. Christmas lights on the promanade in our beautiful city."

Day 5: Routine Monday

The journaling reads: "6 am: Time to wake up for mommy and DS. DH and DS eat breakfast and watch kiddie TV. 6.30: Mommy is ready and wakes up DD the sleepyhead and comes downstairs. DH leaves for work. 7.30: We get dressed and walk to pre-school, and then work. 2 pm: Mommy gets off work and picks the kids up at pre-school. We walk home and have a fruit snack and watch a movie. 5 pm: Dinner's ready and daddy comes home. Kids play or watch a movie. 7.30: Bed time with a story and a song. Mom and dad take turns putting kids to bed."

I actually finished the intro pages and Day 1 yesterday. I took the book with me to work to photograph it. The lighting is so much better there. Not that I'm ever home during the few hours of daylight in December anyways. I bought Ali Edwards' December Daily 6x8 Layered Templates. I was a bit nervous about it, because I really don't know how to use Photoshop, but it was dummy proof! I decided to put a full size photo with the Remember template on the inside of the cover:

I also figured out what I want to use the SMASH Calendar Pocket for. I used some Washi and a Technique Tuesday polkadot stamp to dress it up. I'm not done embellishing it. I'm waiting for my SC venéer asterisks to arrive! The photo is of my daughter baking saffron buns:

I added one of the advent calendar bags my kids opened on the First of December:

Day 1:

The journaling reads: "The day before when we were shopping for groceries DS found these little boxes with a doll and a puppy inside. He was begging me to buy them, and I finally agreed. I said they weren't allowed to play with them just yet, and they accepted this. That evening I traded what was in bag #1 for the dolls and puppies. You were both delighted (and surprised!) to find them in your calendar bags the next morning."

They really had NO clue that's where the dolls went. I love still having such small children. It won't be long before they'll be ahead of me, and the days of easy and happy surprises are gone. Enjoy the weekend, and don't forget to document the ordinary days of December.

December Daily foundation pages done!

December Daily foundation pages, a set on Flickr.

Last night I finished all my number pages. Then I punched holes and bound them together with some Tim Holtz D-rings. They feel a little big right now, but I figure I need to leave some space for filling up the album.

If you have seen the pages I posted earlier you'll notice a few changes. The biggest change I made from ,my original plans is that I will not add any craft calendar pages at all. I'll just add my photos and journaling to the number pages. If I need additional space on some dates, I'll add extra pages then.

I didn't worry about stiching or brads going through the paper because I'll just cover them with photos later. And yes, I did notice that the pages 17 and 18 were in the wrong order. I'll fix that, too.

2Peas online crop this weekend

Are you taking part in the 2Peas online crop this weekend? I combined the "Scrap your food" challenge with this week's Sunday sketch at Studio Calico. The full image is quite blurry thanks to the darkness of November, but the closeups are good. My layout is very close to the original Lisa T one, but I really liked how it came together. The Field Guide kit is SO easy to work with. I think a big part of it is that many of the patterned papers work well as backgrounds.

My DD foundation pages

I've decided to take many of Ali's ideas for my December Daily. When someone that brilliant has already taken the time to think things through you should take advantage, right? The size of my album will be 6x8 inches. I've made a sketch as to what pages I need to make, and how many of each kind. These are my pages:

2 transparancies (to protect the covers)
2 covers (front and back)
5 four-pocket page protectors (I trimmed down nine-pocketed ones)
26 patterned papers
31 calendar pages

Taking good pictures this time of year is almost impossible, so unfortunately they are fuzzy. I hope they will still give you some idea of what I've done. This is my cover pages plus the transparancies. The covers are doubled up and glued together, so they are more sturdy and also have the same pattern on both sides.

Materials: Hambly Studios brown Chicken coop overlay, Studio Calico "Wildflower" PP, Basic Grey Piccadilly brads, American Crafts/Amy Tangerine bits diecuts, October Afternoon Sprinklers in "Paper doily" and these letter stamps

I also bought some card collector pocket pages, and then used my regular papertrimmer to cut them down to 6x8. That left me with 4 pockets. I've filled up some of them. They will sit before the calendar pages for the dates: 1, 8, 15, 22, 29. Every Thursday in December.

Before all other calendar pages I'll have patterned papers with the numbers on one side, and photos on the back. I went through my stash and picked out papers with classic Christmas colours plus woodgrain. I was lucky enough to find that they also have the right colours on the back. I've started putting numbers on some of them:

My calendar pages will be similar to the ones Ali has made, but I think I'll probably use kraft rather than white cardstock.

I've started my December Daily!

I've decided to do a December Daily this year. I will use pieces from my stash. I've been feeling guilty about all that paper laying around, and I never even look at it. I went through my boxes today and picked out all the paper that I felt could fit into a December Daily. I've chosen to stick to traditional colours plus woodgrain. I usually don't buy Christmas themed products, but I did find one Christmas paper from last year. Namely this one by Making Memories, which I love:

I've finished the cover and am now working on the foundation pages. I'll have them photographed as soon as lighting is right!

10 year anniversary

Today me and my man have been together for 10 years. Imagine that! We got engaged 6 months later to the day. We worked hard to have our children, born in 08 and 09. We celebrated our anniversary today as a family. Hoping for many years to come!

I'm so happy those woodgrain thickers were in the shop this month. They are amazing, and I'm all out of A's and N's.

Awesome stamp set

This is a layout I made with the Field Guide kit from Studio Calico. It's about our walk home from daycare. I LOVE fridays! Even better than the weekend, because the weekend is actually ahead of you. I love getting off early from work and having all the time in the world to walk home. I took this funny photo of my son wearing my sunglasses, and placed myself so that I also caught my own reflection.

With this layout I started out with the photo and that orange woodgrain PP that already had a half circle punched out. I decided to make a square. The size of the blue PP matched the Ali Edwards stamp perfectly - coincidence! I then pierced the cardstock by hand using a ruler as a guide. I made a hole every half centimeter. Here's a great tutorial from SC on how to make the best handstitching on your layout!

THE most amazing French toast recipe EVER! And for all non-swedes reading this I strongly recommend a visit at you local IKEA to pick up some cloudberry jam to go with this toast. It will be worth the trip I swear!

Cheesy french toast

Serves 6

INGREDIENTS

6 slices of toast

2 eggs

1 1/4 cups milk (3 dl)

1/2 cup flour (1,5 dl)

1 cup grated strong, aged small piped cheese

(2 dl riven Västerbottenost)

FINALLY! My "Glee Club" kit from Studio Calico finally arrived this afternoon. Not with my mailman. He only brought a receipt for me to take to the post office, and pick the box up myself. And by myself I mean my man had to do it ;). I think I had like 10 checkouts this month, making the box far too big for the poor guy to bring on his bike.

I appologize for this being a picture heavy post, but I want to share my 2-y.o daughter's excitement as she helped me to unpack the goodies. I was by no means less excited, hehe.

My girl ran to grab her little toy camera (well, it is a REAL camera, but not of any use to us) and started taking pictures, just like me. I love how she has it turned the wrong way.

Ze bags inside! I love the sticker on the add-on PP bag.

The Main kit and the Debate Team add-on laid out. And one tiny hand that shot out, quick as a wheasel, to grab her fave part of the main :D

I also snagged some SMASH items, some Mister Huey's and the Amy Tangerine sticker book - LUV!

AND the crop bags. So happy I got these, they're perfect. They really up the chance of me digging back into one of the older kits. All 3 of them - haha! I used my dymo to label them. The one on the bottom that says "Magdas" are my DT kit from Magdas Scrapbooking.

My daughter also noticed the Basic Grey buttons in the add-on and was adamant I open the package. Anyone with a 2-y.o will know what I mean...

I gave her this little container to put them in and she sat for more than an HOUR sorting the buttons in different categories - see through/opaque, colors, sizes - you name it. For a long while she commented every button she picked up with either "titi" (little)in a tiny squeeky voice or "toooo" (biiiig) in the deepest voice she could muster. Hilarious!

I also gave her some of the promo cards from the old kits, and she laid out the buttons in a pattern on top.

If Studio Calico is still around in 20 years I think they have a loyal subber here already ;)

And here's my scrap snack ready for the evening. And why such a tiny bowl of potato chips, you ask. Well, those are the new Pringles Extreme Blazing Barbeque, and they are insaneously spicy. I can't eat more than a handful at a time.

Your first jeans

I've decided to make another album about my son. I do have one before, but I intend to give it to him when he grows up. This one is for me to keep. I'd like it to have a theme, for the layouts to go well together. I've decided on a few details that I want in the layouts. All of them doesn't have to have it all, but each one must have something. First I will try to stick to using white or kraft cardstock. I also want the layouts to be clean and simple, with lots of white space. I will try to use my printer for journaling more often, and also my sewing machine. This is one of the layouts I've created for my album. Don't you LOVE the new rub-on butterflies from 7gypsies?!

This Friday at Magdas scrappbooking we are lifting Suz Mennecke's layout "Whataburger experience". My take on the layout is this:

I really liked the polaroid look of the photo on the original layout. I don't have an Iphone with apps to take incredible pictures with. Instead I used regular photos and ran them through this free download http://www.poladroid.net/.

OA Boarding Pass

I really love the new OA line Boarding Pass. When adding embellishments to this page I noticed how the Pyrus brads from Basic Grey matched the dotted paper perfectly. So much fun!

Banana cake recipe

Ingredients

100 g / 3,5 oz butter
3 dl / 1 1/4 cup sugar
2 eggs
5 dl / 2 cups all purpose flour
2 tsp baking soda ( 1 tsk bakpulver, 1 tsk bikarbonat)
1 tsp ground ginger
2 tsp ground cinnamon
2 bananas
1/2 dl / 1/4 cup cold strong coffee

How to
Preheat oven to 175 C/350 F. Butter a cake tin and sprinkle with breadcrumbs, flour or shredded coconut (my fave). Mix butter and sugar until soft. Mix in one egg at a time. Add all the dry ingredients. Mash the bananas. Carefully stir mashed bananas and cold coffee into batter. Pour into cake tin. Bake in lower part of oven for about an hour. Let cool for a few minutes, then flip onto a plate.

Variations

Add chopped walnuts to the batter
Use a cake tin with a hole in the middle, and fill with fruits or berries after baking (strawberries, mango and passion fruit goes well with the banana cake)
Frost the cake with a mix of Fluff and cream cheese

Creating in my sleep

This design for a layout came to me in my sleep last night. This probably means I should sleep more :D I love how it turned out! I first envisioned confetti coming out of the envelope but when I opened up Mind the Gap, my eyes fell on this pretty feather print paper from Sassafras. Perfect! The title 5208 is my son's birth date. The journaling reads : "The world just became a little better, a bit more beautiful and a bit more full of love. Welcome to earth my angel. You are so longed for."

I'm trying my hardest to use up all of the wonderful products I recieved in Studio Calico's Boardwalk kit.This is a layout I made for LOAW challenge number 4. The inspo piece was this:

I, too, decided to make a shape out of circles. I punched and cut out a whole bunch of circles, and was intending to adhere them in the shape of a number 2. It didn't look right to me though, so I just let the circles flow over the page, like this:

I love love love the Martha Stewart sunburst punch! I also intended to outline all of the smooth circles in white gel pen, but it ran out of ink. Either way I love how this page turned out.

Tattoos

This is what happens when you leave your kids unattended with some markers at grandma's. They get tattooed just like daddy... They were VERY proud of their artwork I can tell you. The faces got decorated, too.

A very old photo

I found this photo in one of my grandma's old albums. It's she and my dad on one of the fields of the farm she and my grandpa worked at when my dad was very little. I think this picture is taken in 1935, but it looks so long ago. It amazes me that my father lived in a time that was so long ago and so different from the world today. Neither my dad or my grandma is around anymore and I miss them both so very much. It meant a lot to me to be able to scrap this picture.

Retro feel

I loved the floral Sassafras PP that came in the Studio Calco kit this month. I used it as a background for a layout. It really gave me the impression of 50's bathroom wallaper, the exclusive Crate Paper PP felt like the bathroom tiles and the Crate Paper "Farm house" ribbon was like the tie for the shower curtain. Love it!

Sharing my inspiration

I thought it would be fun to share my inspiration for how one of my layouts came about. I have been using the frame for the wood veneer stars as a misting mask. After I had used it I just put it aside, as it so happened it landed on top of my SC Boardwalk kit papers. I glanced over and saw this! Isn't it pretty? I took a photo of it to use for a future layout. This is what I made:

And, can I just, ask who else did not realize those tiny print Cosmo Cricket stickers are transparent? I thought they were red on white until I started removing them from the package. I LOVE them now!!!

Hoarded paper

This October Afternoon Rocket Age PP was my favorite of all the papers in the SC Paper Moon kit. You know one of those papers you can't seem to find good use for because you love it so much, you don't want to "waste it"? Well, I finally figured out the perfect way to use it. Another starsign related layout! My daughter is a leo, born on Aug. 9th. This picture was taken on her second birthday. She'd celebrated it eating red currants (that's why her cheeks are stained) with her friends at daycare.

Making this layout, I was feeling brave! I started out adhering the checkered OA PP to the cardstock before I had any idea what I was doing after that. Then I noticed how the Boogie Board add-on stamp was a perfect fit for an Aquarius starsign layout about my son. I went to find a photo with the right colors, then put the stamped image next to him. I kept it up in the same way. I stapled on the twine, then found some matching PP, and so on. I didn't plan anything. I loved how it turned out! The journaling is a text I googled about the Aquarius personality.
